FAQs

What is the Democratic Party County Committee?

It is the official committee of the Democratic Party in Brooklyn. After the 2022 Primary Election (June 28) it will meet to adopt rules and elect officers.

Why join County Committee?

If there is a special election in the middle of the year for State Assembly, State Senate or Congress, the county committee selects the candidate who will carry the Democratic Party line.

How do I join?

You fill this form. Then, your name will appear on a few Democratic Party petition sheets along with a slate of other Democratic candidates. You will be listed as a candidate for the county committee in just one election district (which is a few blocks). The RBG Club will get the signatures needed to qualify you (this is called petitioning), and you can participate in this process as much or as little as you would like.

Then what?

We will file the petition (with your name, representing one election district) with the Board of Elections. If no other slate files, you are automatically elected. If another slate files, your name will appear on the ballots for that election district, and if you win, you're on the Committee!

Does joining help the Democratic Party?

Absolutely! By law each political party must maintain a county committee in order for it to be able to perform certain functions. If we do not have enough members on our county committee we will lack the ability to perform certain legal functions.

Must I attend the post-Primary Election meeting?

No. But you can go if you want. You can also submit a proxy vote.

Do I have to ask my boss?

The law guarantees you the right to join a political party committee!

Do I have to spend any money on this?

Absolutely not!
